This residential design project, named "The Spatial Poetry in the Tranquil Space," is a testament to the interconnection of Western and Eastern cultures. Designed by Hao Chen, the space aims to create a poetic atmosphere for a couple who frequently travel the world. The design features a wooden floor with a collaging line pattern that extends the visual directions and enhances the sense of space. The line pattern of the window drapes complements the floor, creating a harmonious connection between different elements. The central structure beam, covered in mirror material, adds an interesting visual effect and serves as the focal point of the space.
One of the unique properties of this design is the use of a white slab hung from the ceiling, which emits a tranquil atmosphere through embedded lighting. This element contributes to the overall serenity of the space, providing a calming environment for the homeowners.
The realization of this design involved overlapping different parts of the space instead of using corridors to connect them. This strategy not only maximizes the use of space but also caters to the specific needs of the homeowners. For example, the kitchen island acts as a key element in connecting different spatial zones, serving both functional and social purposes. The discreet combination of masses and slabs in the design of the kitchen island creates a place for the family to interact and enjoy precious moments together.
The distinctive guest room in this design breaks the rule of symmetry by incorporating mirrors and windows, resulting in a unique spatial aesthetic. The bathroom, on the other hand, provides a peaceful retreat for users, promoting a sense of tranquility and relaxation. By balancing the features of Western and Eastern cultures and following the original spatial structure, this project successfully regenerates a brand new spirit that soothes every user.
The design also addresses specific challenges. In the restaurant area, walls with soft materials absorb noise, creating a more serene atmosphere for casual and safe conversations among family members. The large oval table represents a fusion of Western and Eastern cultures, with candlelight adding warmth and stability to the space.
The Spatial Poetry in the Tranquil Space was completed in 2016 in Taiwan. It is a testament to the designer's meticulous research and attention to detail. The project received the Iron A' Design Award in 2018, which recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. This design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
